Old soldiers rantings
I stand before you hunched and bowed
You look at me with scorn
My hair is grey, my legs are weak
My clothing old and worn
But I was once a serviceman
In the forces I plied my trade
I still have my pride and honour
Even if my hair has greyed
I see your looks upon me
And I smile in my own way
I hope you'll get to live your life
Away from wars harsh days
For you now get to live your life
Away from violent shores
I only hope you've a learnt a lesson
From us and a forgotten cause
For us the now forgotten
For us the left behind
We don't ask for your forgiveness
We don't pretend that you are blind
But we ask for your acceptance
We ask you will agree
That war has made us all see things
Humanity should not see.
